Gold Star Foods and Buy American

Gold Star Foods Support of Buy American Gold Star Foods historically sources 100 percent Grade A domestic product to hundreds of schools across California. The only time a product would be internationally sourced is when it’s out of season or not available. Gold Star Foods is only purchasing foreign mandarin oranges and pineapple, which are not currently sourced domestically and are also not available through the USDA Foods program: http://www.fns.usda.gov/fdd/foods-expected-be-available. Additionally, these are sourced from reputable importers who meet or exceed the regulations outlined in the Food Safety Modernization Act: http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/FSMA/

Our commitment to sourcing transparently and providing fresh California agriculture is unwavering and consistent. We encourage you to evaluate all of your sourcing partners to ensure adherence to not only the Buy American Provision, but local sourcing is leveraged as much as possible.

We have a department dedicated to good food procurement, and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure that the foods received and distributed are the safest and healthiest available. We can assure you that the foreign canned fruits we receive meet or exceed the FDA standards for foreign foods: http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/ImportsExports/Importing/default.htm.

Gold Star Foods is committed to providing fresh and wholesome produce and foods from local growers – it’s the central tenet of our company. Please let us know if we can offer you more detailed information about the items sourced by our company and how we can best assist you in finding the highest quality sourced items from the most reputable suppliers.
